Madison's Velvet Darkness Cast
Just three of us on cast were there, but it was a good three. Also present were the theatre owner and my daughter. We walked around and measured some space and got some ideas for blocking. Hard part for me is letting go of older ideas about how the Majestic used to be. I keep thinking we used to do this, and realizing the reason we did something, usually a space issue, no longer applies.|
We are looking at a functional space of about 16'x16' with variable margins and wings on all sides. We will have access to the house lighting system. The movie itself will be on a small video projector screen above the stage. This will put the performance area at eye level to the whole theatre (instead of hidden behind a row of chairs), with live performers that are bigger than what is on the screen. It also means everyone needs to know their part ridiculously well, as we won't have the fallback of sideways glancing at the screen to resync. This means everybody must review the movie as often as possible between now and the show. Know your part. I will also be trying to know all your parts so I can cue you if you lose your place.
This really could be our best show yet, as long as nothing goes horribly horribly wrong . . .
